I wouldn’t know but that 1973 wilson-cowan model may not be up to the task (though ANN’s are universal computers or approximators –Hornik 1993. Seem to be a version of fourier’s series or radial basis functions. ) .
I saw an article in Guardian recently which said the DSM definition of schizophrenia may have to go.
