The only quartet I’ve ever seen that had props for their concert. I saw them a couple of times decades ago. I’ve often wondered how much of their acclaim is due to their practiced eclecticism and how much to their musicianship. I like them a lot and I’ve never heard any other quartet play Purple Haze, but I wonder how they would fare if you compared their rendition of Bartok ‘s 5th quartet or the late Beethoven quartets with the Takacs quartet or the Juilliard.

@finding Kronos has taken their own unique path so we’ll never know how they stack up against the more traditional quartets. I think they would be interesting but in terms of pure technique and musicianship it’s hard to beat the two you mentioned.
