Selection of the week

Leonard Bernstein conducts the “Orchestre National de France” in Hector Berlioz’s (psychedelic) Symphonie Fantastique 5th Movement:Larghetto, Allegro (Songe d’une nuit de Sabbat) in Paris, 1976.

If you have the time, here’s the whole piece played by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Stéphane Denève.

  1. i was not a fan of berlioz but an interesting book on classical music was ‘meaning in music and information theory’ by leanard meyer of uc (related to my relatives—they knew jack cowan too). it seems we could save alot of money if we just digitzed all of this and let computers do the work. (few times i play out, people always help me retune my guitar correctly—and tell me to get some lessons on how to play elevator music and ad jingles correctly–so i retune it back; i actually prefer indian classical music (ragas, etc.—some rock bands like beatles and velvet underground were also into that)
